What I Wore in July

I know it's been a while since I posted a What I Wore Today doodle but fear not, I've finally got round to sharing July's festival clobber with you...

I've drawn 7 of these bad boys now which means it's more than half way through 2012 already... where has the year flown to? If you're feeling curious why not have a flick back through my blog posts to see what I've been wearing this year so far.

Craft. Design. Contemporary.

This summer the Nottingham Contemporary will be hosting their 3rd Craft Fair showcasing 31 designer makers from recent graduates to established designers.

Come and choose some truly individual and handmade gifts all made by local designer makers. The giant Space will be filled with stalls, all selling covetable craft and design wares including jewellery, cards, textiles, illustrations, ceramics and vintage finds.

And the best part... It's FREE! Come and support the local talented beans on show and why not treat yourself while you're there... you know it makes sense.

Another small thing: No: 7.

Another trip down memory lane to my little list of things to make my life better this year and it brings me to...

7. Stop being mean to yourself. You wouldn't call your best friend fat or ugly, so don't allow your own thoughts to say these unkind words either.

This. Is. Hard.

It is something I am sure a lot of people deal with on a regular basis and although I like to think I am a rather happy little bean a lot of the time I will always have those demons to contend with when it comes to self confidence (especially on those mornings I'm stood confronting an unforgiving mirror in my pants!)

However deep down I also know I am a good person and I am mightily lucky for what I have in this life so no matter what the mirror spews out at me in the morning I must learn to love myself, after all...

Yes it's hard but things could be a lot worse and only you can do something about tackling your mindset around issues of this nature so just as the clever bear below emphasises below (in such a lovely cuddly way), go on and try it... If you do I promise I will!

A little sunshine for others...

It's been a wee while since I've posted about what I've actually been working on lately so I've slapped my wrists, pulled my socks up and am here to share some of my most recent projects....

Both of which I am most delighted with, as they are personal pieces of sunshine for others and have put smiles on faces!

If you can cast your mind back to last month I created a special anniversary sunshine for my friend to give to her husband. It went down a treat, not only with the happy couple but with some of her lovely facebook followers.

After I finished Gemma's sunshine commission I received an email from the delightful Debbyanne who wanted a Sunshine of her hubby and their little girl in time for Father's Day. After a few emails, several photos and some playing around with colours this was the finished piece...

Shortly after I had sent Debbyanne her Sunshine prints a lovely lady called Lucy got in touch and wanted a Daddy & Daughter print too, including two kitty cats in the picture with them. Again, after a few emails, photos and colouring in exercises this was the outcome...

I always love doodling and drawing up these commissions, especially when I know how much people love them when they see their nearest and dearest as an illustration for the first time. When Lucy emailed me with the following comment I can honestly say I didn't stop smiling for the rest of the day...

"I really love it, I just showed it to my daughter and she recognised her Daddy instantly."

If anyone reading my little blog post is interested in turning a loved one (or themselves) into a Sunshine caricature please get in touch via my facebook page or through my website. I love drawing them so would be more than happy to hear from you!

Face Painting, Craft stalls, BBQs, Real ale & Fun times!

Get this cheeky date in your diaries and come and join the fun at The Staunton Arms in the Vale of Belvoir! Despite the rubbish weather of late it is Summer after all!

Not only will I have my usual stall of sunshine treasures but I'll also (with the help of my beautiful assistant) be running the face painting too! Mwah ha ha ha ha ha!

Ahem... anyway, it shall be lots of fun and it's under a big marquee so no excuses if it's raining! It'll be a lovely day out so get your wellies on and who knows maybe the sunshine will be there in the end!

A wonderful way to spend a Saturday!

On Saturday I was lucky enough to take part in one of Alys Power's necklace workshops! It was fantastic! It was for my friends hen do and we spent the afternoon making pretties, drinking tea, eating cake and making a lot of noise! (A combination of hammering metal and nattering!)

I can 100% recommend booking onto one of Alys' workshops, not only because she is one talented lady and makes such beautiful things but because it is a great way to spend time with new people (or with friends if you book a group) and learn some new techniques.

Here are some snaps from the day... as you can tell there were a lot of happy faces at the end!

My finished pieces *happy face*

The proud lovely ladies with their treasure from the day!
